WHAT: 24th Anniversary Flashback Bash!
Store History
Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy® first opened our doors on September 3, 1986 and have been proudly serving the Austin community, providing comics, graphic novels, manga, action figures, collectibles, board & card games, role-playing games and miniature games. Originally, we only carried comics and related accessories but we have long since expanded our business model.
We’ve had three locations in Austin – an old house on Guadalupe street, a location on 49th & Burnet and our 5600 square foot store!
Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy® Austin have been pioneers here in Austin in working with indy comic creators, webcomics creators and community involvement! We’ve hosted many events over the years for indy comic creators and run Webcomics Rampage, a very successful webcomics creator signings event each year! We offer space to Austin Area homeschoolers for their weekly game day and participate in local conventions such as Anime Overload, YomiCon and Staple.
We are also pioneers in workplace equality in the comics & game retail industry. Our General Manager, Angie Blackmon is one of the few women in the industry who have worked their way up through the chain of command to supervise two successful comic & game stores and be recognized as an industry expert, giving interviews for publications such as ICv2. Our Store Manager, Rachel Edwards, has followed in her footsteps.
Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy® is expanding, offering franchise opportunities all over the US! Just recently, we opened our very first franchise in Bellevue, Washington and we hope for many more to come!
