This was a fantastic event, with tough competitors and amazing armies taking the field! Our three winners are:

Welcome to the Dwillands. A place where a curious little people have become quite powerful. Doing business even war in far off lands. Not to the liking of conservative Dwill Pindby B. Broomwhistle. He prefers to administer the Broomwhistle Detective Academy for Near and Distant Relations. Every two years Pindby graduates one student. His nephew Belium Brownsea occupies that slot. Things are fine until the ‘hustle and bustle’ of the world comes to Pindby’ s door in the form of a letter. It is from the famous Esquire Bombadas Mistleharsh. Someone has kidnapped his daughter! It is a call the old Detective can not refuse. After finding out from the corrupt Stringle the Habadasher, that the girl has been taken by the Witch Cults Pindby and Belium march off into Montrolla – the Wild Lands. The mystery deepens, and the suspense, as the Gnome Glirt, a grandmaster spy and former star of the stage, and Marlon a Centaur in service to the Dwill Government add to the adventure the two Dwills find themselves drawn into.

The Author

Eric Dreyer Smith is a graduate of Trinity University. His YA novel The Broomwhistle Chronicles was just released in April 2010. He has been recognized as a poet in national contests and publications. As a filmmaker his short, Doppelganger, won the IFMASA best picture award. He worked in New York City at Richard Burton’s American Musical & Dramatic Academy and has studied acting with several noted teachers and performers.

Currently Eric is working with Seven Sparrows Productions on an adaption of Aesop‘s Fables to childrens’ songs and writing his fourth novel, Skin for Skin, which takes place in San Antonio, Texas.

Shadowfist is a trading card game from Inner Kingdom Games and is played and playtested at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy® San Antonio!

Shadowfist is a trading card game based loosely on action movies from the studios in Hong Kong with a splash of Hollywood for spice. The cards represent people, places, and things involved in the Secret War to control the world’s feng shui sites, mystical places of power that guarantee victory and prosperity for those who control them. Each game represents a small battle in the larger war raging all around us.

Players represent factions fighting in a secret war for control over the world by harnessing the life force of chi.

During a game, you’ll play various cards to advance your side of the story and move closer to your goal of controlling feng shui sites. Each player needs his or her own deck of Shadowfist cards to play, but the exact mix of cards you play with is up to you.

Shadowfist is a very combat-oriented game that features many of the same game mechanics as Magic: The Gathering such as attacking, defending, permanent character enhancements and instantaneous game effects. At face value, it’s not all that different from most other CCGs, but a closer look reveals that it is the single best multi-player card game on the market with a wealth of nuances to enhance games of three or more players.

Organized Play

The San Antonio & Austin Shadowfist playgroups meet every other Tuesday night from 5pm to 10pm. Our weekly activities range from friendly play to tournaments to playtesting for the forthcoming expansion set. All are welcome to join the fun!

We will have Three Categories:

• Hero (HQ, Hero, Lord, Warcaster, Special Character, single Reaper model, etc) – 25/28mm


• Units (25/28mm, Cavalry Units included. Should meet the rules from for the game from which the models are taken from to define a legal unit (ie minimums, maximums, armament, etc)


• Warmachine (40mm+, tanks, ‘jacks, ‘beasts, warmachines, monsters).

Rules & Restrictions:

• Again, the model must be unpainted at the start of the contest (8/1) and completed by the end (8/31).


• The unpainted model(s) can be taken from the Reaper, Citadel, or Privateer Press lines. There is no fee.


• Limit 1 entry per category per participant.


• There will be prizes for the top winner in each category.


• We will be having Open Painting Days, each Friday of the month so participants can paint in a friendly atmosphere and patrons can see their progress.


• As part of the entry you must sign a form stating that the entry(ies) will be newly painted models and that the work was your own.


• Employees of Dragon’s Lair Comics and Fantasy cannot participate and are ineligible for prizes awarded from this competition.
