Join thousands of players at local game stores, libraries, schools, and other public locations for a day of great D&D fun! Worldwide D&D Game Day is a recurring public celebration of the Dungeons & Dragons game and a way for local communities to get together and play with some of the latest D&D rules.
Come celebrate the release of the new D&D Essentials line of products and the new Dungeons & Dragons Fantasy Roleplaying Game with a classic-style adventure and a retro game experience!
The D&D Essentials product line is designed to give you everything you need to play the classic D&D game experience, and it starts with the new boxed set – the Dungeons & Dragons Fantasy Roleplaying Game. Inside the “Red Box,” you’ll find everything you need to begin your adventure. After you’re done exploring the Red Box, you can find all the rules for the 4th Edition game in the Rules Compendium, create the iconic characters you want with Heroes of the Fallen Lands and get ready to expand your campaign with the Dungeon Master’s Kit, Monster Vault, and Dungeon Tiles Master Sets.
Just for participating you’ll take home the pre-generated character sheet of the character you played. If you DM the game, you’ll take home the adventure itself, a poster map of the encounter areas, and the tokens used in the adventure. To satisfy your curiosity, here’s a quick description of the adventure!
Read Comics in Public Contest Winners

Saturday, August 28th was the first Read Comics in Public Day! In honor of the occasion, we ran a contest on our Facebook page to get folks to send in pictures of themselves reading comics in public. The top two would get gift certificates for the store!

Deathwatch RPG Playtest

Deathwatch by Fantasy Flight Games is a roleplaying game in which you take on the role of a member of the Adeptus Astartes – the devout, bio-engineered super-soldiers also known as Space Marines. After many years of exemplary service within your own chapter, you have been singled out and selected to join one of the most unique and specialized collectives of Space Marines – the Deathwatch. Deathwatch is due out in stores on September 7th!

Welcome to the Dwillands. A place where a curious little people have become quite powerful. Doing business even war in far off lands. Not to the liking of conservative Dwill Pindby B. Broomwhistle. He prefers to administer the Broomwhistle Detective Academy for Near and Distant Relations. Every two years Pindby graduates one student. His nephew Belium Brownsea occupies that slot. Things are fine until the ‘hustle and bustle’ of the world comes to Pindby’ s door in the form of a letter. It is from the famous Esquire Bombadas Mistleharsh. Someone has kidnapped his daughter! It is a call the old Detective can not refuse. After finding out from the corrupt Stringle the Habadasher, that the girl has been taken by the Witch Cults Pindby and Belium march off into Montrolla – the Wild Lands. The mystery deepens, and the suspense, as the Gnome Glirt, a grandmaster spy and former star of the stage, and Marlon a Centaur in service to the Dwill Government add to the adventure the two Dwills find themselves drawn into.
The Author
Eric Dreyer Smith is a graduate of Trinity University. His YA novel The Broomwhistle Chronicles was just released in April 2010. He has been recognized as a poet in national contests and publications. As a filmmaker his short, Doppelganger, won the IFMASA best picture award. He worked in New York City at Richard Burton’s American Musical & Dramatic Academy and has studied acting with several noted teachers and performers.
Currently Eric is working with Seven Sparrows Productions on an adaption of Aesop‘s Fables to childrens’ songs and writing his fourth novel, Skin for Skin, which takes place in San Antonio, Texas.

Shadowfist is a trading card game based loosely on action movies from the studios in Hong Kong with a splash of Hollywood for spice. The cards represent people, places, and things involved in the Secret War to control the world’s feng shui sites, mystical places of power that guarantee victory and prosperity for those who control them. Each game represents a small battle in the larger war raging all around us.
Players represent factions fighting in a secret war for control over the world by harnessing the life force of chi.
During a game, you’ll play various cards to advance your side of the story and move closer to your goal of controlling feng shui sites. Each player needs his or her own deck of Shadowfist cards to play, but the exact mix of cards you play with is up to you.
Shadowfist is a very combat-oriented game that features many of the same game mechanics as Magic: The Gathering such as attacking, defending, permanent character enhancements and instantaneous game effects. At face value, it’s not all that different from most other CCGs, but a closer look reveals that it is the single best multi-player card game on the market with a wealth of nuances to enhance games of three or more players.

The San Antonio & Austin Shadowfist playgroups meet every other Tuesday night from 5pm to 10pm. Our weekly activities range from friendly play to tournaments to playtesting for the forthcoming expansion set. All are welcome to join the fun!

War of the Ring: Battle Report II
June 14th, 2010Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy® San Antonio hosted a Games Workshop War of the Ring event on May 29, 2010 and one of our valiant customers, Charles Turok, did a write up of the battle – complete with pictures!
It’s time for the second installment – turns 2-5 and the final prizes!
This was an awesome event and we hope to have many more like it!
We’ll be posting that battle in installments over the next couple of week! This week, the Forces of Middle Earth and the Forces of Mordor gather on the field of battle and exchange their first attacks!
