We would like to acknowledge and wholeheartedly thank Reaper Miniatures and their Master Series Paint Contest, whose event served as inspiration for the Golden Odin and from whom we’ve borrowed liberally.
Background
The Golden Odin is an “open” painting competition hosted by Dragon’s Lair Comics and Fantasy® in Houston, Texas and is meant to showcase miniatures painting talent and recognize the passion for the miniatures painting hobby by all skill and experience levels. Integral to this goal is a set of publicly available judging criteria and feedback from the judges to the painters on their work, how they were judged, and how to improve.
Submission Restrictions
To be eligible for entry in the Golden Odin, the work(s) submitted must have been completed in the time between the contest announcement and the Submission Deadline. The work(s) must also have not won top-tier honors in any previous painting competition. Due to the nature of time, space, and the Internet, the Honor System will be used for all entrants.
Entries may be commercially-available or 3d printed models.
No more than one entry may be submitted per Division per person.
Submissions must be received by close of business (typically 10pm) on the day of Submission Deadline. For 2024, this would be November 30.
Divisions
Painter Divisions:
Small Single Figure (less than or equal to 5” high from base bottom to model top)
Large Single Figure (more than 5” high from base bottom to model top)
Models entered in the Painter Division will be judged solely on the painting aspects of the model itself, with less consideration given to the basing of the model or lack thereof. These entries are single model and may be either stock or modified, but the entrant must be aware that no judging points for modifications are awarded in the Painter Division. Entrants in this division are judged on the following criteria:
- Difficulty – 5 points
- Creativity – 10 points
- Workmanship – 10 points
- Painting Skill – 70 points
