Rising Sun

March 19, 2018

Rising Sun is a spiritual successor in the same mythic big box series as Blood Rage: same designer, same artist, same studio and same sculptors.

Rising Sun is a game about honor, negotiation, and warfare in a feudal Japan where the ancient gods (kami) have returned to rebuild the empire.

Whereas the distant ancestor of Blood Rage was Risk, Rising Sun claims Diplomacy as its distant ancestor. Tackle negotiations, alliances, and war. Capture hostages and commit seppuku. The game features an honor track, which rises and falls based on your actions.”

Set in legendary feudal Japan, Rising Sun in control of the great clans, gathered by the mighty Kami to reshape the lands and return them to their honorable, spiritual traditions.

Each clan will use their unique abilities to spread their forces across the provinces, build their strongholds, harvest the land to reap its rewards, and wage war against each other.

As the seasons change from spring, to summer, and to autumn, players may upgrade their clans with strategic enhancements, bountiful virtues, and even powerful monsters out of legend to aid their cause. The clans would also be wise to give worship to the gods, as each Kami may  grant them abilities. However, diplomacy can be an even more powerful tool, as the clans forge alliances for mutual benefit, and negotiate their way towards victory. In this political arena, honor is more valuable than gold, although betrayal can turn the tides of war. Battles are won, not just by sheer force, but by strategy and cunning.

Rising Sun has a couple of expansion already one of them being the Daimyo Box.

This set contains all the exclusive stretch goals unlocked during the Kickstarter including a box to store them all in.

These items include an extra set of season cards, the plastic strongholds and alliance tokens for the base game clans, plastic mandate cards, plastic ronin tokens, the Fox Clan, and 10 monsters (Koneko, Kotahi, Phoenix, Nure-Onna, Sunakake Baba, Sacred Warrior, Kitsune, Jikininki, Daikaiju, and Earth Dragon)

The next expansion is the monster pack.

When the fate of the kingdom is at hand, one can never have too many Monsters at their side. This expansion brings 4 new imposing Monsters to you game, which you can add on top of the basic roster of Monsters to your game, which you can add on top of the basic roster of Monsters the Clans can acquire. These magnificent and terrifying creatures each introduce a unique ability, opening up new strategies for cunning players. The Jinmenju enchanted tree is able to summon more of your forces across the Map, the Jorogumo spider creature can seduce opponents’ warriors to your side, the devastating Fire Dragon incinerates multiple figures at the start of a Battle, and the towering Oni of Plagues blocks the honorable from its Province.

The final expansion is Kami Unbound.

The great Kami, Japanese gods of the sun, moon, sea, wind, thunder, storm, and war, have been unleashed! No longer content with passively being worshiped in their Shrines, the physical manifestations of the Kami have descended upon the Land of the Rising Sun to aid the Clans that honor them and shape the Provinces in their own image.

The Kami Unbound expansion makes the Kami a true force to be reckoned with. Instead of just offering an ability to the Clan that worhsips them the most on each Kami Turn, the Kami now come down to the Map and help the Clans in their struggle. Not only do these Kami figures join the Clan that worships them the most, lending their undying strength to their side, but the each bring a unique power to the game, changing the rules of the Province they occupy. This expansion also contains a brand new Set of Season cards, bringing even more options and strategies to any game, whether the Kami Unbound rules or not.
